Dreaming of Yesterday

Emotions are like a roller coaster, and I need God to keep me belted in...
My academic life doesn't seem to allow me much time like this...
Sometimes I see myself and am startled because I expect myself to look 14.

Crochet Top, Skirt | Element Style Boutique         Cuff | Becoming like us on Facebook!

I usually don't try to get all personal, but here we go... Goodness squash rice!  I dislike not knowing the emotions of people I am directly interacting with.  It is so easy for me to be so mean, but I feel like everything I say I have to think about and rephrase in my head, as to sugar coat the truth.  I may be the culprit of my own judgement when it comes to this, but people are so sensitive.  I know it is partially the ways of American cultural, but growing up with one parent Puerto Rican and the other Chineese... you can imagine the clash of culture... which isn't much like the American culture.  Also, my close friend Jas is Indian, and apparently her culture is "tell it like it is."  Being like Jesus is so hard- I need to work on being love.

As time passes, of course people change.  Friendships come and go but that is part of life.  Attending 7 schools prior to college has shown me this.  Perhaps it was a forced acceptance, but none the less I accept it.  I suppose that has made me take the word "friend" with a graver tone.  I do consider many many people I know acquaintances, even those who consider me their friend... but to me a friend carries so much weight, commitment and honesty.  In my mind, that does not leave room for me to truly use the word "friend" lightly.  People I have met that have grown up moving around a lot have the same view as myself, but what percent of our population has really moved around as many times as me?

End of summer.  This is it! Although I am missing the first two days of college, the past 2 weeks of my summer have been so fruitful.  Right after my summer research internship was over I FLED to my second hometown.  Honestly, I am way over my current home town- and college in general.  Aside from one negative where I hurt someone's feelings(really due to personal differences and a misunderstanding which I have to give time before I revisit),

  •  I saw my friend get married,
  •  Modeled for a boutique (details coming SOON!),
  • Spent more money than expected on super cute pieces(not really a plus),
  • Held hours of photo shoots,
  • Networked with another boutique,
  • New running sneakers (for my very wide feet) were purchased!,
  • Enjoyed nature
  • Connected with my sisters in Christ
  • Had a mental break
  • AND Lost fat (aka became more healthy).
These last two weeks seemed more fruitful than my entire school year! Because if you do what you love, you will love what you do! <3

Firmoo Fierce

First and foremost  I am overly excited about my new online vintage boutique Becoming.! Y'all get a sneak peak of my boutique, before my business partner and I do our grand opening!  So if you see something you like, be sure to email me to snatch it up!  We eventually hope to donate 50% of our profits to bi-annual charities (after our blog takes off)!  This vest is for sale on Becoming. too!

Upcycled Denim Vest | Becoming.
How to upcycle a denim vest: Do you like this soft rocker chick look? This vest was previously a long sleeved denim jacket! I actually cut off the sleeves, added studs, ripped it up a bit, and dip dyed lace fabric into a cross for the back. This project took a few hours with the help of my BFF! :)

Sunnies | c/o Firmoo

The Sunnies. These sunnies were a gift to me from Firmoo!  Firmoo has a virtual try-on feature, reviews on Facebook, and a chic look for a portion of the price! If you are a first-time customer, you can actually get a free pair too  HERE!  You'd just pay for shipping.
Oh, and each pair comes with all these accessories!
My life as of now is so beautiful... I mean beyoutiful.  My close friend Molly just got married Saturday. I was on the decorating committee- it turned out beautiful.  When she walked down the isle, glowing and spirit filled, I cried.  My dear little Molly is now entering a new season in her life.  She is like a grandma in her wisdom and a young child in the flesh (she is an adorable shortie).  This was my first wedding, and it changed my view on marriage.  Molly and Karl are such a Christ centered couple- they fill me with awe, and I know will inspire people daily.  This is how I want my marriage to be.  Amen to that.  You know those people that amaze you beyond words?  This is them...and I am more than blessed to have had Molly as a part of my life the past 4 years.

Shop Becoming.   If you see this post, you can catch a Sneak Peek of my online vintage shop: Becoming.  The hope is that enough will be sold, to donate 50% profits made to different charities!  I am also looking into packaging in all eco-friendly materials!  Giving back is one of the most important things in life... why not look good while doing it?  Shop Becoming... where vintage potentiality meets edgy actuality.

This giveaway actually runs weekly, and will continue through September.   I saw these cutie earring on Mont Affair too!

Now pertaining to my life... my school starts up again in two weeks.  I have been so busy this summer with multiple projects and research with a professor that I haven't had much time to relax.  Beginning tomorrow I am going to travel away on vacation.  I look forward to spending time with my Papa, enjoying nature, kayaking, helping with my friend's wedding (CONGRATS MOLLY!), visiting Chicago for the first time, and taking some fun pictures to share with you all.
Luke is such a good Gospel book.  I have been working my way through the Gospels in the Bible and am now in Luke.  Luke was one of the disciples that, inspired by the power of the Holy Spirit, began writing of the life of Jesus Christ.  This is the third of four gospels accounting Jesus' life.  [*ahem*- My man J]
Perhaps it is just the season in my life, but I find that the gospel of Luke has so many verses that I highlight and return to.  I see so much parallelism, for example:
"He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters." -Luke 11:23
"He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." - Luke 10:16
Verses like these seem to be rephrased multiple times throughout this gospel/book.  Seemingly harsh words to people who are against Jesus.  But then I think- if I only took this verse and did not think about the entirety story, from creation to eternity, I would find this unjust.  God is love and purity yet just and jealous.  If He loved you always, and you were against Him, would it make sense that there is mutual actions leading to eternity with  the Lord/Creator?  These verses seem to propose a quite logical flow.
I do believe that the creator of this place we live in has a higher intellect and that the creator is the original point of inspiration for us.

Pocahontas + Giveaway

"You look like Pocahontas. No! Pocahontas is you!" I heard this two weeks ago, and it really made me smile. So this post is inspired by my friend Carine, such a wonderful, loving, beautiful, peacekeeper.  Also, be sure to enter the giveaway below!

"But Jesus said to him," Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side" Luke 9:50

Free Spirit.  Pocahontas, to me, represents the youth of Disney movies. The adventurousness of seeking strength, the endurance of finding direction, and the structural outline of society versus what the Holy Spirit is guiding you to do is how I interpret the movie.  At the conference I attended, a bunch of my cohort girlfriends pointed out how much I looked like Pochahontas, then Mulan.  I have gotten that since kindergarden. *I take as compliments*

Freedom seems to be interpreted in many ways.  I try to take my freedom and use it to freely give to others (mostly of my time) and  hopefully inspire women of all ages.  It saddens me to see people with amazing talents that are not being put to use. Some people only use their freedom to fulfill themselves in short term actions.  Whatever you do, please be sure to always give to those less fortunate than yourself.  Even a smile or sitting down with someone who looks lonesome can make a huge difference in their day, and consequently that of others.

Giveaway! Mont Affair is hosting a free dress giveaway each week until September 25th! I already entered this week, be sure to enter too! Open to bloggers & non-bloggers!
